Young Blood

While cruisin' up to the Ottawa Rapids in my Cruz, I was rawkin to SiriusXM Radio's BPM station. And I couldn't get enough of this tune:

I came home and downloaded all of the Naked and Famous tunes (plus another remix) which stand well on their own. (Hey, you never know! Sometimes the remixes are way better!) Awesome tunes to play while cookin' up a storm or chilling on the patio at home.

I have blisters on my hand from clutching too tight to my golf clubs Friday and the centre of my back is still on fire from paddling my ass off Saturday - so wonderful! These little aches are reminders of big memories. Now my legs are sore from stair climbing and one-leg presses at the gym. Ahhh ... the feeling of being alive!!

Rafting was an excellent adventure! I had a super cool guide and the other folks in my raft were really easy going and fun to joke around with. The older guys were a little lazy, I have to admit. Me and my girl T were doing far better on the rowing - lean forward/pull back! A couple weeks prior I was focusing on the rowing machine at the gym and I think it paid off. The DOMS would likely be a lot worse if I hadn't prepared my body for it beforehand.

But nothing could prepare me for the humongous bloated dead moose we saw. We couldn't tell if it was a horse or not, but the antlers were a give away. There were loads of bugs and birds around. And in one spot the size of my fist, the skin had been ripped off, so you could see the yellowy mush inside. Then our guide told us about the time she stepped in a dead cow while she was rafting in Ecuador. Oh man, so gross.

I can't wait to go rafting again!!

Cool musicians and nice people are sometimes one in the same

Speaking recently about reconnections - Eric sent me an email Sunday night! The last we communicated was way back in September 2010.

He's a super chill dude, very fun, and we met when his band came in from Ottawa to play at The Riv. I had just started freelancing with Uncharted Sounds and The Draculas was the first band I interviewed with UCS. Eric is no longer with The Draculas, and now has his own band, recording in LA and touring all over the place.

I was happy to hear from him. (It's always nice to be remembered too!) We lost touch as people do. No hard feelings or anything. I had a boyfriend at the time (The Parisian) and took our meeting as a fun experience. So, Eric and I are going to try to reconnect while I am in Ottawa for my rafting adventure.

It's really shaping up to be an extraordinarily fun  weekend!

Some tracks:

Loved this one the first time I heard it in High Fidelity. (That soundtrack just rules, man.)

My dad introduced me to this tune - it's now my all time favourite John Lennon track:

Jammin' while on hold with call centres

One of my fave Amy tunes :)

Journey is always important to have on most playlists :)

Way back from 1997

Mystery calls from Van City

In the past I received mystery calls from Seattle and Van City. Sometimes Nevada and Florida. Each time I wonder who it is and each time I'm surprised I forget who it could be! It's Moose.

I met Moose last Spring. He is a heavily tattooed dude. Seriously. Like The Dude from The Big Lebowski. Just super cool. He was strutting West on Queen St. toward University, holding a few bags of purchases and smoking a huge-ass Cuban. Even the side of his head had tattoos. And here I was in my work clothes, having just left a pal I had dinner with at a burger place nearby. But was I weary of this 6'5" inked guy? Nope.

I just followed the sweet smell of the cigar and walked closely behind him. When we eventually met at a corner waiting for the red light to turn green, I commented on how great it smelled and he offered a puff. I declined, but we went out for drinks instead.

Sweet guy. But he lives in Las Vegas. We lost touch quickly.

Moose will be back in Toronto on another tour (he puts up and tears down stages. Last time he was in town, he was touring with Usher.) He wants to meet up again. More cigars and cocktails. Seems harmless enough, but now it's a planned event which means intentions are more prominent.

We'll see what happens.

Oldies but Goodies

Paul Anka!! Have you heard his cover album? He pulled a Johnny Cash, but his songs are more fun. He covered Nirvana's Teen Spirit. So awesome.

In college a boyfriend put this song on a mix tape he made me. I still love this song!

Antics

A fabulous Interpol album. My favourite one of theirs actually.

Antics is a fabulous way to describe my room mate. She is a crazy 40-year-old who has nothing better to do that to try to torment me with her crazy old lady antics.

I had started packing this week and removed some items that I don't necessarily need in the next couple weeks. A shelf. Some kitchen cutlery. The dust buster. I figure I'd start packing little by little to avoid packing in a rush and not being able to find anything I need once I move into my new spot.

The following day, Danielle sent me an email asking why I was removing all my things that she uses as well. She asked if it was because I didn't want her touching my stuff. Then said I failed to let her know I was removing the things she also uses and it was an inconvenience.

This email proved confusing because I also took down some photo hangings and window decorations and took out all my make-up from the bathroom (quite a bit, I love playing with eye shadow!)

Does she use my eyeshadow?

Clearly she is not happy because she must like some of my stuff and will miss it. In retaliation the day following my empty response ("I have to start packing at some point") she removed her toaster and kettle from the kitchen. They are not in any drawer or cupboard. So I unpacked mine since I had all my boxes out already and now have them displayed on the counter.

I'm not quite sure what point she was trying to make but removing her things. Either way, it surely was lost on her.
