Ok, ok, I know you want more posts! Sorry!!

I keep too many personal blogs at home to remember to update this one.  I'll  make sure to run updates more often in 2012. :)

I've been contemplating the New Year and my adventures planned. The first big one being my Surf Camp trip to Costa Rica. It's through Beach Travellers - 13 days of beautiful beaches and surfing adventures in the mornings. Afternoons are to be filled with anything from ATVing and Zip Lining to massages and naps.

If you know me well, you know I'm prepared physically since I've gotten pretty solid over the past couple months. Now I'm looking for more specific work outs tailored to surfers so I don't get winded and make the most of my surfing experience! The below workout proves amazingly effective. It looks easy - until you try it!

So far I can go 2.5 rounds without getting completely winded. My shoulders are really sore from the pop up's and the muscles in the middle of my back are already more defined after only doing this work out for a week. With 4 more weeks to go, I'm definitely going to be ready when the time comes! Let's hope I can stay up on that board!

Not Cooler Than Me

I had a Mike Posner addiction last month. It's calmed down a lot since then, but I just heart his tune in my iTunes playlist and it got me going again...

I love this tune!

Only problem is, I can't hear it too well right now. It's freezing in my office, so I'm wearing the new earmuffs I bought at BCBG Maxazria. They are white and made of real rabbit fur. Yes, I wear fur. (Only the fur of animals I eat.)

Happy Fall. (Why are Christmas Deco's up already??)

I walked past The Bay on my way to work this AM and the window displays look amazing. Lots of fake snow, big wooly hats, fuzzy boots and cashmere scarfs...but what's with the Christmas songs? Same goes for every other retail outlet, coffee shop and news stand. Christmas songs are everywhere.

And it's only 12 degrees out (Celcius - in case you are American and wonder if we really do live in Igloos.)

It brings me back to the days of when I used to work in retail to pay for College. When I worked at Sears Square One and had to wear the red polyester bowtie. The songs would start before Halloween and continue into the first week of January. Needless to say, I was very bitter about the holiday and failed to enjoy the Spirit that it should encompass.

From reading this blog, it may or may not be obvious to you that I have been trying to locate a faith that speaks to me. I first thought I was Neopagan, then Pagan, then New Age and now finally I have stopped upon Spiritualism.

Spiritualists are from all religious backgrounds and we all believe in the following seven principles (somewhat like commandments):

1 - Infinite Spirit, Divine Creator of All That Is.
2 - Unity and Equality of All.
3 - Communication, Guidance and Healing from Spirit and Angels.
4 - Continuous Existence of the Soul and Its personality
5 - Personal responsibility for the Creation of Our Reality, through Thought, Word and Deed.
6 - Actions create results according to Natural Law.
7 - Eternal Progress open to Every Soul.

Spiritualists believe that the soul is what gives your body life - it is a deeper level of self, the subconscious. But the Spirit is the essence within your soul that connects to others. Acknowledging your own spirit takes much effort, yet it is the only means by which to connect with other spirits, embodied or not.

Being aware of your self, soul, and spirit, and the responsibilities and laws thereof, is only the beginning of what Spiritualism encompasses. It is a journey I am finally ready - and willing - to take.

Today's tune!

I haven't heard this song in a loooong while. I was downloading Catherine Wheel's Ferment album and felt a song was missing. I don't know why, but I thought this tune was on the album. And I was so disappointed it wasn't! So thank the gods for YouTube. And for Catherine Wheel fans. I still think this is one of their better tunes. Unfortunately (for many obvious reasons) it's quite unradio friendly.

I haven't met many insensitive fucks lately, but I'm sure to listen to this song when I do!

My Interview with the Junction last Spring :)

Ah... the dating game continues!

Door Number 1
He's the vice-president of his daddy's company. He's a Montrealer - flirty and fun - but has a bit of an aggressive side which poses he will be the challenge some gals like. He doesn't drink, but he used to deal pot and made a mint doing it. He moved to Russia to marry a girl he met online, but he's a smartie - because she had Hepatitis B, so he backed down. Heeeeeere's Eddie!

Door Number 2
He's fresh out of school working in the same industry as you, so you have a lot in common right off the bat. He's not flirty at all, but will please your every whim without a peep. He will pay for dinner, he will give you akward hugs and he will never call, but will text you sporadically. Heeeere's Jonathan!

Door Number 3
This guy is a bit of a youngun, about 5 years your junior, but he is in his sexual prime! He's a plumber, lives with his parents and your conversation will always veer back to sex because that's all his life revolves around! He's short. He's quirky. He's got all his hair! Heeeeeere's Jordan!

... Is there a door number 4?

Pumped Up Kicks

My summer tune :)

Another tune of their you might have heard is Helena Beat:

It's amazing to think this band has only been around for two years and they've already achieved such success. Makes me pity the bands who have been touring around the GTA forever praying to even get a track anywhere on the Billboard list.

I guess this band is further proof that if you make good tunes, news spreads fast. Let's hope they won't disappear in another two years like The Killers did.

Lights.

This tune is always on whenever my brother has a party. I'm always stuck on it for a week or two following Jason's shin dig's.

And of course, after listening to this, I am craving some Tron Soundtrack for some reason...

My brekkie was a snap decision, but a good one!

My date went a LOT longer than I planned on last night. I wanted to get home by 11pm. I ended up at home by 12:30am. He was very insistant adn I wasn't aggressive enough. So now I'm angry at him abotu it, when really I should be angry at myself for letting him push me around.

So this morning I woke up tired and angry. I couldn't be bothered to make breakfast so I had a tall glass of orange juice instead. When I went to my local Starbucks to get my usual Tall Americano, I saw the food and decided it would be in my best interest to eat breakfast after all. My snap decision turned out to be a healthy choice, which surprised me later when I go tto work and decided to check out the nutritioinal content online:

I'm still not happy with how last night played out, but at least I won't be a zombie this morning!

Summer is winding down - Time to get inked!

I was at my colleague's Salon Grand Opening party on Saturday when I ran into some people from work who were asking where they should get inked. I sent them an email this morning and thought to post it here for those of you who are looking to get inked in Toronto. 'Tis the season!

There are three things you need to look for:

1. A super clean tattoo parlour
2. An artist who understands the vision of what you want. This is really important if you want custom work (for them to design your own tattoo instead of picking from the wall art)
3. Price. Price depends on custom work too. You shouldn't pay more than $100-$150/hr. Anything under $100 is questionable.

All the below parlours are very clean

I got my tattoo done at Passage. My artist Tyson. You can see his work here. I paid $600 for my ink. And it took 6 hours (split between three days)

An amazing place is Seven Crowns Tattoo. It's a little more expensive than passage, but the work is amazing. I'm going to get my next ink there. The place is very clean.

Another place I just checked out last week is Forever Yonge Ink. The place is clean, but very small. Not ideal if your work takes more than two hours.

New Tribe is very popular. Very clean. I've walked in a few times with friends who have been inked/pierced. Not my favourite though. There are too many drop in's. the place is always crowded.

Adrenaline Tattoo is also very good: I had a piercing there (tragus), they were very clean. Not sure about price for ink though. Go online and look at the art work to determine which artist you think will best match the creation of what you're looking for.

If you want good custom work - you're going to have to pay for it. Anything less than $90/hr is very questionable. Paying for a senior artist is ideal as the healing process will likely be a lot easier.

Ask friends where they got their ink done. If when you drag your hand across their ink, you feel the skin is raised, they had a bad artist as he/she put too much ink under the skin.

Most of all, go with your gut. You'll more often than not be right. :)

And it's been another while. Summer of 'Tine.

Yes, it's the summer of 'Tine: Sun, Fun, Men, Friends, Food & Wine. Can it get any better?

Maybe, if I won the lottery, lol.

Been hitting up patio's all over town. Did a wee radio spot. Went to a couple BBQ's at friend's places. Invested in a new alternative wardrobe. Americano's on my balcony. Good dates, bad dates, weird dates. Cottaging, Beaches, wine with the gals, wine with the fam, gymning, working, training, working, and writing. Meeting new people in random places. Catching up with old friends. It's been a fabulous summer.

Still, I guess perhaps that's no excuse for lagging in my blog posts, but I'll use it anyway!

Now there's a rage about Girl Talk, which I don't get. Reminds me of the old boardgame. But apparently they're a mash-up band. I dig mash-up bands, but they're getting old. It's all about Dub Step now.

I find it hilarious how only now Dub is catching the wave above ground. It's been an underground deal for at LEAST 10 years. My buddy Dubian had been traveling around, spinning his Dub since I met him 9 years ago and it was so severely underground that he was tranveling all across North America and even South America if I remember right. Back then I wondered what the big deal about it was.

Now I finally get it.

I, like everyone else, finally got it.

I wonder if people in Europe are smarter. I mean, it takes so much longer for us Westerners to 'get' new music.

Just something to think about...

Where Them Girls Dance Dance

Today's tune... this vid makes me LAUGH!!! DG has a fab-u sense of humor:

Monday's tune of the day was a classic by Don Henley:

Sunday, July 17, 2011

For all you concert goers...

Today's tune is an important message by Dave Grohl.

Now I love him even more than I did before.

A Night Like Birthday Sex Sun Of A Playgirl

At my birthday party last night, one o fmy friends plugged in their iPod into my stereo and pumped  Shawn Desman into my ears. I don't know if it was the wine or not - but I actually liked what I heard.

And since it was my birthday yesterday, it's only suiting that the tune of the day was Birthday Sex by Jeremih. (Not as catchy as SD, haha).

Friday's song reminds me of Kylie Minogue. Found it by accident and danced to it in my undies while cleaning my room. After watching the video, I had the urge to shove a steak down the singer's throat after watching her roll around on my screen. Seriously, she's way too boney. I understand she matches the marketing aesthetic, but still. It's so pathetic. I'm waiting for the general public to stop demanding such visions.

Thursday's song is an old fave by Ladytron:

Your Song is mine to love

I heard this on a rerun of SNL this past Saturday night and it was such a beautiful rendition of Elton John's tune. :)

Yesterday's tune of the day was Brighter Brightest.with their new music video for "Everyday" off their First Full length album "Right For me" Grab it August 9th!

NB: Ok so I published this a day late. My wonderful friends surprised me with a patio party at Remy's last night for my birthday. <3

That explains why it wasn't posted on time, haha. What a wonderful excuse!

Beat Me...

Custom's Beat Me was my favourite off his Fast album released in 2002.

Custom is a Canadian-born, New York-based rock musician best known for the tune Hey Mister. He seemed to disappear after the album into movie writing - without much success. Still love this tune. Way better than that trashy Hey Mister one. You know, coz Beat Me has more class.

Haha!

Poison & Wine is for dinner

Got home from a workout and after eating my protein bar, wasn't feeling super hungry. I wanted to feed mmy ears instead so after perusing friends' musical tastes, I discovered The Civil Wars.

This is the band that Jack White should have put together with his ex-drummer wife. This combination is so intoxicating and alluring... and romantic. The Civil Wars have it down and I will be listening to their Barton Hollow album nonstop for the night. :)

Indigo Children

Today's tune is a commemoration of the Tea Party reunion.
I saw it coming. Whoever said they didn't, it's oblivious to the music indistry.

Yesterday I spent the entire day at Edgefest. The best interview of the day went to Mockingbird Wish Me Luck. They turned the tables and interviewed me! It was a super awesome time. We forgot each other's names, posed with Gibson guitars and joked around. Great guys. :)

Puscifer was in my head since Friday morning.

I never gave a fair listen to Puscifer. Mostly because I thought the Queen B video was lame and that the V For Vagina mascot was rediculous (not to mention the name of the album). But putting all that aside, I listened to the album and was blown away when I first heard Indigo Children, which is quite haunting. I love haunting music (I'm a big fan of chants in general - which are often beautifully haunting in nature).

The topic of Indigo Children is quite grey as no one seems to be able to agree on a definition. Some say Indigo kids are those with a bright blue aura, who are very conscious of the world, their intuitions and feelings. They are creative, curious and somewhat stubborn. Other medically inclined people believe Indigo Children are sensitive to the ways of the world and in turn have developed ADHD or other mental illnesses that leave them persecuted by classmates. They are generally seenas gifted children, who are bored of the current structure of society. They are still quite creative, intuitive and curious.

The only traits both sides seem to agree on are the gifted creativity and curiosity kids generally have, which they will likely carry with them into adulthood. The intiutiveness of such children will often either flourish or flounder depending on how they are brought up. It's an interesting topic. One Maynard seems quite interested in. Fans of the Lateralus album know that Maynard (brainchild behind Too, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer) is quite eccentric himself. His Lateralus and Puscifer album delve quite deep into the subconscious mind, while A Perfect Circle tends to be more fluff in my opinion (though still equally enjoyable!)

Seeing A Perfect Circle live again was a great experience - especially watching from backstage.

When I first saw the band, it was with the original line-up in 1999 when the band was shiny and new. They were opening for Nine Inch Nails' Fragility V2.0 tour. (When The Fragile was released) It was spectacular then. Yesterday was less spectacular in lights, but all the drama remained in the music.

Gone Too Far In Your Bedroom

Haha, like how I jumble up the track names together?

Today's tune is Goldfinger's Here In Your Bedroom while yesterday's was Dragonettes' track Gone Too Far.

Yesterday's tune was my favourite Dragonette tune. The video makes no sense, but who cares! This track is awesome!

Last night I hung out with my girl Lisa at the Gibson Lounge downtown to watch Dawson Reid perform. The first time I met Dawson was at Gibson's awesome party at the Hockey Hall of Fame this Spring. I was so happy he remembered me! Gave me a big hug and asked how I was doing. Super rad guy. He is so excited to be moving to Nashville with his wife and daughter. I'm excited to hear the new tracks he lays down while living there. And I hope he visits us again with great stories!

The Gibson Lounge is gorgeous The artist room is amazing. There are hundreds of guitars and big comfy leather sofas, a Steamwhistle fridge, Kurig coffee makers and super cool people. The resident pup is also a cutie. Kirby jumped right on stage and stole the crowd's attention. Then he ran back to me and fell asleep on my lap. Aww....

Before leaving, I made sure to sit down with Darrin Pfeiffer - a Gibson rep he's also the drummer for Goldfinger (as if you didn't remember!) He's a super cool dude. We talked about everything. Music. Hockey. Lube. You name it.

We also chatted about Martin Streek. It was the two-year anniversay of Martin's death yesterday. Everyone I know was chatting about it. There's a memorial tonight at The Charlotte Room if you're interested in sharing your own personal Martin stories with his friends.

Rock Kills Kid - Another L.A. Band disappeared into the sunset...

Back in 2006, this tune was ruling pop/rock charts. So it's my tune of the day. I'm kinda feelin' Paralyzed.

I remember chatting with the lead singer of The Miniatures  int he summer of 2007 and having a brain fart, thinking I was all of a sudden chatting Rock Kills Kid. Sometimes too many pop bands thriving in the scene sound too much alike. Funny thing is, they all seem to ebb and flow in popularity all at once.

Where's my Chauffeur?

Ahh... Duran Duran's The Chauffeur. Reminds me of my Dark Rave, Masquerade, FunHaus, Savage Garden and Reverb nights while in College. Only one of those spots exist now. Is this what it's like to grow old? A lot of reminiscing?

Had a fun long weekend :)

Canadian's are made for long weekends. We live on the patios. We burn to a crisp with Pride coz we only get two months of summer. And of course, the Pride event itself topped off the weekend nicely!

It's only fitting that Sunday's tune of the day was Madonna. (I was gonna go with Cher, but I will not stand to post her crappy music on my blog.)

The band behind Saturday's tune was an easy guess. Still never saw them live. I will be working at Edgefest July 9th... too bad they're not playing...

Friday's tune was by an even more obviously Canadian band for Canada Day. Never saw these guys live either... I swear, I AM Canadian! lol

Summer in the City

Finally, it's the Canada Day long weekend. Here's a good ol' tune to start the weekend off. (Rest of the weekend will be Canuck tunes - promise!)

Sunshower - Secret track on Euphoria Morning. Remember?

Not many remember this one, but I found it by accident when I was playing around on Kazaa back in 1999 and instantly fell in like with it.

Another fave of mine was this first single released from Cornell's first solo attempt:

Hard to believe he's 46 now. I mean, he was Soundgarden. And then Audioslave. Temple of the Dog... Ok, I guess it's not hard to realize hwo old this guy is. He owns such a unique voice. I'm suffering minor symptoms of Cornell withdrawal.

Speaking of withdrawal...I haven't set up my sound system yet in the new place. I still have boxes EVERYWHERE and can't find my dressy work clothes (ah, who needs 'em, right?) Been busy with the new job (while still working the old one), represented Uncharted Sounds at a really interesting Social Media seminar hosted by Randall Craig for ThatChannel producers. Lisa Balestri, owner of Uncharted Sounds used to host a show on That Channel called UCS Wave... Ever see that Stereos interview? Go Here and type UCS Wave. It's the first episode that comes up. :)

The Envy

Today's tune of the day is by The Envy.

Their tunes have been featured on So You Think You Can Dance, and hopefully you'll hear more of them, too. Hit up their Web Site to get a free download of their tune War.

Whoa Is Dope

Today's Tune... This vid screen shot looks like my room right now. (Just moved into a snazzy new pad.)

My girl Lisa knew this band when they first started years ago. I just found out about them - and I'm glad I finally did! They sound GREAT live and seem quite down to Earth, but still have a bit of that cool Rawk 'tude, which is a perfect combo. Plus they're a pretty cute group of guys.

The first tune I heard by this band is linked below. I heard She's Dope when I was working otu at Goodlife. I changed the TV channel to MM and was pushing weights hard when this one came on. I actually stopped to watch the video, waiting for the name of the band to pop on the screen. (Then I started pushing again, don't worry.)

Voodoo Obsession

Today's tune is Godmack's Voodoo

This vid came out in 2002 I believe. Voodoo's been around forever, though. (Ever see Skeleton Key? Love that movie!) There's also Haitian Vodou and West-African Vodun, but we'll stick with the Louisiana/New Orleans style of it.

I've never met a real Voodoo Queen (well, not to my knowledge), but if I ever do get to New Orleans, I would seek one out. Not for an ouanga, rather for a charm to reppel evil or to witness a ritual of good intentions.

Yesterday's tune was Obsession by Animotion

Music is a Philosophy.

I first discovered Visual Audio Sensory Theatre (VAST) when I moved from Montreal to Toronto in my teens. Maybe that's why I have a soft spot for this band's music. I found them at a very impressionable time in my life.

If you read the lyrics of this debut album, you may think they're a Christian band, but I believe they're actually more spiritual instead of Bible thumper bands like Collective Soul and Jars of Clay. Exploring where all music comes from is important to self discovery - how far you've come and where you will go.

Listening to Black Metal will help you address what you're afraid of. It will make you feel unsettled, maybe, or draw out some unresolved anguish. I can only listen to it for a few minutes at a time. It makes me feel too anxious to listen to it any longer.

Maybe listening to Chris De Burgh will remind you of that one song your mom would always put the needle too when she was vaccuming your house when you were a kid. It drove you crazy then, but now you kind of like it (though you would never admit to it.) Then you'll wonder whatever happened to vinyl? Oh right, cassettes.... Then you'll recall winding your cassettes with pencils when the tape spun out coz of your crappy boombox eating it.

Listening to Grunge will make you relaxed; you'll remember all those days listening to Hole or Soundgarden while smoking up behind your high school during English class.

Good feelings will come, memories too. And you'll wonder where all those good memories and feelings went... how they changed, how you grew and what is good now.

Music is a philosophy. It's my creed and it's a drug I'll forever push.

As if we need a reason to NOT do Heroin..

Honestly, I can't believe we need reasons to NOT shoot Heroin. If anything I need serious reasons to even begin to consider that trash.

But if you need a reason not to, just look at Scott Weiland's life. And his scrawny body. Barf.

Song of the Day is Velvet Revolver's Fall To Pieces, but Blogger's Youtube App is being a bitch today and won't let me upload. Here's the linky.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JhsUFuqbCM

I think I'm a rare breed of girl who likes a guy with meat on his bones. I can't stand a skinny dude. I don't care if he's taught and has lean muscle, I like thickness on a guy... on his arms and legs people. Yeesh.

(Ok, that too...hehe)

As my mom says, cushion for the pushin'. Actually, she said it backwards (Pushin' for the cushion), but I was still bewildered she even said anything remotely crass. Love it.

Wake up Sleepyhead ... It's the Summer Solstice today!

Today's track is a great discovery...

My old boss is a music fiend; addicted to Slacker Radio, he feeds me new music all the time. I say old boss, because I have been promoted!

Lately, I've had a lot of fabulous things to celebrate. Been working out in the gym solid for 8 weeks, looking great. Receiving fab-u compliments, got a promotion, moving into a new pad, going to Vegas - life is gooooood.

Happy Solstice, everyone!!

Feel It.

Today's tune is by Canadian band Jakalope who was prominent on Toronto radio and TV from 2003 - 2004 ...and then fell off the radar.

Back in the fall/winter of 2003/2004, I was briefly dating one of the techs who was editing this video with the director. They had the little aliens in bottles scattered all over the director's house. He also had a chandelier that held real candles. It was boudoire looking. Super cool, not overly dark and dreary. He also had a young family, so it was amazing to think about growing up in a cool environment like that.

Odd part was that I ran into my ex-beau 5 years later on Bathurst street. He was strung out and talking to himself at a bus stop. So sad.

Forgot to add my tune of the day yesterday, I was so bizzy running around! I have a soft spot for Boston...even though they stole the Cup.

On the subway ride home from hitting up the driving range with my gal pal, I was approached by a man who introduced himself as a Trojan Skinhead. (Then he pointed to his buttons on his jacket.) I had no idea what that meant until I looked it up when I got home. Thank goodness he was the good kind of skinhead.

His name was Chucky and he said I looked like I stepped out of a Ramones video coz of my Chuck Taylors, rolled up jeans, leather jacket and long hair. I politely smiled and said thank you! What a loverly compliment. We talked about tunes, it was pretty lax, but comfortable.

Chucky said he had a girlfriend, but his brother was single and he thought I was cute for him. Then Chucky asked how old I was. I started laughing straight away. How old did he think I was? So I asked why he was asking. His brother is 19! So I said I was a little old for him... that I'll be 29 next month.

It's such a lovely compliment when people are so surprised about how I'm older than they first thought, lol. Guess I'm taking good care of myself! We said we'd try to meet up at Wakestock coz the Dropkick Murphy's are playing - Chucky is a huge fan. I have never been, so I figure it's a good time to go.

I love life's funny little stories like this one.

What Sarah Said...

I'm in a DCFC mood so here is today's tune of the day:

I saw Death Cab for Cutie twice live. Once at the Kool Haus and again a few years later on Toronto Island for a summer fest. There teen hipsters and The O.C. fans everywhere. I went with my buddy Matty, who is super picky with his women. He always said to me that it's good to be picky - It's how you'll ultimately be happy. I thought he was ridiculous then, but as time passes, I grow more picky and realize Matty's point.

Last night I had an interesting convo with a guy I was dating. He's in his second year of university and is living at home. He's six years younger, so I knew that he wasn't going to be thinking of long term relationships, which is what I ultimately want. But I had fun hanging out with him whenever we have the chance, which is about once every 10 days.

He said he felt like he was wasting my time. I asked him to elaborate. He went on to say that he thinks I should find a man with money and time. I told him that I have money and I'm busy enough so seeing him so sporadically didn't bother me. I said that it would probably never work because he's in university and still needs to explore what he wants in general. We never did define our relationship. We never had sex. We just played, talked and confided in each other. It was akward somewhat because we were so intimate without being sexual.

So we parted amicably. After which, he made some odd little comments, but one stuck out:

"Your glasses hide your eyes. They're so pretty."

I do have contacts but rarely wear them. So today I tried an experiment and put my contacts on when I picked up a coffee and cat food this morning.

Men stared. Some of them even smiled. One said hi as he walked by.
A lady told me how nice I looked! I received amazing service in shops where I never received good service before. The shop keepers looked at me a little longer, more than they usually did. The striked up conversations on topics outside my purchases.

Perhaps it was just a day where the stars were aligned and everyone was chatty. It is a beautiful day after all. Still, I can't help but feel my younger friend was right. People trust more when they get a better look of your eyes. Perhaps I look more trusting without glasses?

Yesterday was so busy, I forgot to post the song of the day:

As crazy as she is, I still love her tunes.

Just lay it AGAINST ME!

Ah... love it.

Hearing Against Me! always reminds me of getting inked. When I was on Tyson's table last Spring, the artists has the Miami album on for one of the hours (I was there for 4 to complete my calves.) I'm a fan of the tune Stop! But the one below is my ultimate fave tune by this band.

Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners. Awesome name for a tune.

Now I wanna get inked again... Hmm...

*~. The Girl .~*

This is the song that every girl dreams for a their musician boyfriends to write. An acclamation of love that's far from a sappy love ballad, though equally touching.

I've never had a guy write a song about me and sing it. I have had a guy spontaneously make up a song about me, which was pretty funny. I've also been serenaded several times, which was always appreciated. It wasn't super romantic, but it was a sweet gesture on both their parts.

No Sex... In The Champagne Room... NONE!

This was my tune of the day for yesterday. A throwback from 1999. Crazy. I remember watching this on Much Music. And how Chris Rock was HUGE. And he's faded into the background like DJ Jazzy Jeff. Then it became all about Dane Cook and Russell Peters... We need someone new in comedy!

Chills

This song is way too catchy not to post
My boss was jammin' to this tune a little while ago and I now whenever I pop into work I hear it. I wonder if, like the smell/memory trigger, the Sound/memory trigger is just as strong.

SHOUT! The tune of the day :)

The Isley Brothers knew what they were shoutin' about...

Heard this tune while I was in a home decor shop that just opened next to the Balisi on Yonge north of Eglinton. The gay couple who owns it are adorable. They just got a new puppy and have finally hired help for the shop so they can enjoy the day to themselves. I was a bit disappointed they didn't carry any 'Happy Pride' cards. I wonder if those even exist in Toronto? I'll have to check the Paperboy card shop at St. Clair and Yonge. He might have it.

ohGr = awesome

Tune of the day is ohGr's Water.

My buddy Derek first introduced me to ohGr back when I was just about out of College (2003). Immediately took to this tune. Was all about timing because I was huge into anything Al Jourgensen touched back then. Had the Twitch album on repeat.

Derek has a very diverse taste in music and I am so lucky to be his pal. He passed music on to me and I pass it on to my friends who rant about how I'm always discovering new music. I feel like a bit of a cheater, but really, how else do we discover music most if it's not through friends or being rocked by an opening band at a show?

What is a Skeleton Jar?

Song of the day is by Aussie's own Youth Group... it leaves me wondering what a skeleton jar is...

You may think you don't know who Youth Group is, but I trust you have already heard their cover tune in countless commercials.

Apparently it was on the O.C., but which trendy tune wasn't?

Hmm... Do you think Glee took over on what the O.C. used to be in regards to discovering (or rediscovering) tunage?

Feelin' Superbad

Song of the day is James Brown's Superbad
Makes for a Wonderful Wednesday. ;)

Is it weird that I always think of Superbad's opening credits when I hear this?

That question I will never avoid being asked...

...Why are you single?
Other variations of this question include:

1. Where is your boyfriend?
2. Are you focussing on your career?
3. Are you a lesbian?
4. How do you meet people?
5. Are you trying?
6. How can you eat out alone?
7. Are you too picky?
8. Do you know what you want?
9. How long have you been single?

I'm sure some of you can plainly see the look on my face without looking at me right now.

To answer these questions:

1. I don't have one.
2. Yes, but it's not my main focus in life.
3. Yes. If I'm not bound to a man, it means I must be a lesbian. Thanks.
4. Rock shows, grocery stores, TTC, through friends. Anywhere and everywhere.
5. If by trying, you mean to ask if I strike up conversations with anyone, then yes.
6. Because I hate being restricted by couple-dome. If I wanna steak and don't wanna cook, I'll go to a resto and avoid pathetic looks from the wait staff.
7. No, I just know what I don't want, which in turn creates an argument for what I want.
8. I thought I did...
9. Three years with a couple months of relationships squeezed in.

Lately I've been getting variations of these questions quite frequently. Of course it's always married or coupled people who ask these Q's. And I always tell them the same answer "I just haven't met the right guy yet." I don't know what answer these people expect.
And it's always married guys who tell me "If I were single, I'd date you." Ew. Sleezeballs. Is that supposed to make me feel better?

The long and the short of it is that I have specific requirements for a boyfriend (listed below). Some of you may think I'm dreaming. (If this is your case, perhaps yo're not in a fulfilling relationship. Grow a pair and get what you want. Life is too short to be miserable with someone.)

Req #1: No drugs and no alcoholism or smoking.
Flexibility: Having a joint or cigarette once in a while is acceptable (weekly/monthly/annually). Daily is not. Coke, Meth, Heroine constitutes immediate fail. Also, I'm all for having fun drunk spells once in a while (monthly).

Req #2: Must be over the ex.*
Reiteration: I will not tolerate being courted by a man who is not emotionally invested in me.
*This is why I cancelled my eHarmony account in February. All these twerps still had hard-on's for chicks who ditched them.

Req #3: Must be a good guy (with a spine).
Clarification: I once was on a date with a guy who asked me (with arms flailing in a gelatto shop) why girls say they want nice guys, but don't stay with them for long. I told him a lot of nice guys don't have a spine. He paused and then admitted he had no spine. Therein lies the problem.

Req #4: Must be willing to commit to being in a relationship.
Reiteration: Dating is fun, but I want it to go somewhere. I'm not out to dick around and date four people at once just for the hell of it. My time is too valuable and I really enjoy getting to know a person. If the man's goal is not relationship-bound, I'm not interested. Usually this is sorted within the first three weeks of dating when a guy expects to get laid and doesn't. If  he's really interested and has the best of intentions (and the same goals as myself), he'll stick around.

Some people think this makes me picky. I assure them it simply means I have standards. I'm not willing to let people walk all over me, or to bend my rules. Of course, compromise is key to a relationship, but that's only possible if both parties desire similar outcomes.

Song of the Day is Something a Little Spacey

I woke up, still fuzzy from the BBQ celebrations last night. Was a great time with a rad group of people. Made new friends! Ate lots of steak! Polished off a bottle of wine and played with a puppy! WEEE!

(See? Still fuzzy. Awesome feelin' tho.)

Something Spacey to match my mood - Wolfmother's White Unicorn.

I saw these guys live twice. First was a free show from The Edge about 5 years ago at a wee venue across from the Mod Club. It was a stellar show. Back then, no one knew who Wolfmother was, so they thought I was mad for sitting on the shoulders of my boyfriend at the time and cheering the band on.

Second time I saw Wolfmother was at the first Virgin Music Festival on Toronto Island the year after. Seeing them play an arena made me feel great! It's so awesome to watch a band you like succeed. Still, I preferred the intimacy of the small venue.

Armistice - a beautiful arrangement

I'm a huge fan of Coeur De Pirate, the work of 21-year-old Béatrice Martin, a pop starlet from my home province of Quebec.

I love her work with Jay Malinowski even more. Their voices mould and dance so well together. Far better than Zooey Deschenel's partnership with M. Ward. Some musical couples have the chemistry. And the Canadian duo have what it takes.

So City Lights Cry is today's tune of the day. :)

Smooth Criminal Sexx Laws

Today tune of the day is Sexx Laws by Beck

This video is weird. I remember when Midnight Vultures came out and I had no idea who Jack Black was.

June 3 - Alient Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal

Where the hell did these guys go?

Song of the Day - Enola Gay

... By Orchestral Manouevres In The Dark. Symphony must still be on my mind. ;)

The Symphony was... wow.

I have never seen the Toronto Symphony Orchestra before, so when a gal pal of mine asked if I wanted to come with, I jumped at the opportunity.

We had front row seats, smack dab in the centre. It was neat to be so close to the strings, to watch the expressions on the faces of the cellists and violinists as they swayed to the music. To listen to them expell air or suck in a breath before a solo. The funny thing about the whole ordeal? People actually say Bravi, Brava or Bravo!

It took 2 hours to listen to 5 concertos: (Is concertos the right word?)
Rachmaninoff: The Isle of the Dead
Debussy: Première rhapsodie for Clarinet and Orchestra
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Intermission
Messiaen: Les offrandes oubliées
Rachmaninoff: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43

My absolute favourite was The Isle of the Dead. You can listen to Part 1 here:

The best piece had to be the Sorcerer's Apprentice. It's the music of Fantasia!! I couldn't help but giggle through the whole thing. It was so fun. I can't wait to go back!

Looking for a smile?

You will find one here:

First of three G20 summit meetings on the first night of a Stanley Cup Game

Makes sense.
All the rowdy folks who caused problems will be AT THE GAME.

TORONTO, May 12 /CNW/ – The Independent Civilian Review Into Matters Relating to the G20 Summit will hold three hearings in Toronto on June 1, 6, and 13, 2011.  The hearings will provide individual members of the public, organizations, and other stakeholders with an opportunity to share their views and opinions on the role that civilian oversight should play concerning the policing of major events.  The hearings will be open to the public.

The Independent Civilian Review Into Matters Relating to the G20 Summit was launched on September 23, 2010 by the Toronto Police Services Board.  The Review will examine issues concerning the role the Board played with respect to the policing of the G20 Summit of world leaders that was held in Toronto on June 25-27, 2010.  The Review will also examine the role played by the Toronto Police Service during the G20 Summit, with a view to determining whether the plans developed and implemented were adequate and effective for policing of the Summit.

The Board appointed the Honourable John W. Morden, a former Associate Chief Justice of Ontario, to conduct the Review and provide a report and recommendations to the Board. For more information about the Review, including the public hearing process, please visit www.g20review.ca.

How did Robert Plant let this happen?

Song of the Day. Reznor and Atticus are at it again with the score for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake. This tune is a Zeppelin cover with Karen O.... what do you think?

I had to listen to this quite a few times to get past the unsettling feeling that came with the wailing that is Karen O. It sounds too much like something Marilyn Manson would create. I love Reznor and was a huge supporter of the score for The Social Network. But I guess this proves I'm not a fan of everything the man touches.

ALMOST DONE!

May 29th song of the day - Katy Perry's ET feat. Kanye West

My brother got me hooked on this tune. Plus, I dig the albino's butt at the end of the vid.

May 30 - Queensryche's I Don't Believe in Love

I used to be a bit of a metal head... And was in a mood on Monday. I used to read all the old school metal mags, the good ones - when they used to publish them. They were published on paper with ink that would come off on your fingers. I remember countless Dimebag pull-out posters. How crazy was it for a metal mag to have pull-out posters?

Still catching up from last week.

Seems like my song of the day is now weekly updates of songs for the week. Work, boys, dinner with friends and packing is still taking up all my time. OoOo and I'm going to the Symphony tomorrow for the first time! I wonder if it'll inspire my tune of the day...

For now, here's to catching up for the songs from last week starting with:

May 22 - Black Eyed Peas' The Time (Dirty Bit)

When I had my moving out party over the long weekend, I kept this track on rotation. What can I say? I love the Dirty Bit. ;)

May 23 - SNL Digital Short 'It's Not Gay When It's In a Three Way'

First of all, three ways are for people who are open-minded to the gay factor because yes - it IS gay. (Not in a bad way. Just sayin'.) Still, love this vid and Gaga is great. Odd though that the original SNL Digital Short is now unavailable on YouTube.

I read in last month's Wired Magazine that there is a huge battle between Lonely Island's independent work versus their work on SNL. The conflict of interest, and battle for audience, is huge.

May 24 - Kiss On My List by Hall & Oats

Courtesy of my buddy Nathan who is addicted to Happy Music, here is my tune. I have no story. I have no insightful ditty. Just sing along to the la la la's. :)

May 25 - Cut Copy's Where I'm Going

Cut Copy's latest album, Zonoscope is apparently an amazing summer album. It came out in February this year, so it was mid-summer for the Australians, who are loving the record. (Pitchfork.com rates it an 8.5 out of 10.)

I'm hooked on this tune and can't wait to make it one of my summer albums!

May 26 - Diamonds and Guns by The Transplants

Remember 2002? It doesn't seem so far away, but this song brings me back to my college days. This track was on heavy rotation on The Edge and then disappeared, along with the unicorns and rainbows that were the dreams of The Transplants.
It's true. It's a wicked world that we live in, fellas.

May 27th - Everclear's Everything To Everyone

Going even further back to 1997 when kids responded to anthems. Over ten years later, they need a fresh one. I think the last effective one was The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. I wonder if Lady Gaga is going to up with one?

May 28 - Judas by Lady Gaga

I love black leather, motorcycles and men which aren't always that good for you. Good ol' Judas, you kooky guy.

The latest fad in weight management tools - iChange

iChange is a weight maintenance tool you can use to track you intake of calories, your output via exercise and your mood/stress levels so that you can ultimately make better choices which should help you grow healthier and lose weight.

It's comparable to a pad of paper and a pen.
The only way you can create an account is if you are invited by a Herbalife trainer. iChange is founded and run by Herbalife, a supplement pyramid scheme business. Think AVON for nutritionists and personal trainers. This is the company description on the iChange site:

Herbalife Ltd. is a global nutrition and direct selling company. Our products: include protein shakes; protein snacks; nutrition, energy and fitness supplements; and skin and hair care products. The company markets and sells its products exclusively through a network of approximately 2.1 million independent distributors who conduct business in 75 countries, and also offers a direct sales business opportunity for full-time or part-time income.

Right now iChange is currently testing in Beta. I had the opportunity to try it, so I decided to follow everything for a week.

It banks on the system that as you increase in levels on the site (everyone starts at Level 1), your weight loss increases. In a span of 5 days, I made it to Level 5, which, according to the chart, means I lost 12 pounds (which of course, didn't happen). You increase levels by aquiring points. In order to acquire points, you have to fill in your weight and body measurements, read articles, peruse the site, join groups, and comment on other people's activity. Not an accurate measure of weight loss. If you make it to Level 10, it means you have lost 80 pounds! Pfft.

The only beneficial thing to iChange is the library of food it has, which is handy if you're a calorie counter. However, this site is no different that eDiet (which I also tried two years ago) and the countless others out there with food libaries for the conscious eater.

iChange is extremely slow and it's journaling function has loads of bugs. It's a giant ad for Herbalife.

And how did I find Herbalife? I met a trainer at a Speed Dating event two weeks ago. We matched... and has he called? No. But he sure has invited me to 'free' information sessions about Herbalife.

Floating On... song of the day

Work stinks some days. (You can still love your job and have a crap day.)

Whenever my boss is super stressed, he turns Slacker radio to his Modest Mouse station. And it gets me pumped up into a good mood, which is suitable for the song of the day.

I used to always get Modest Mouse confused with Keane. Not so odd considering this comes from a gal who used to get Matthew Good confused with Dave Matthews, it's pretty normal. :P
